Philoptochos
The word Philoptochos means “friend to the poor." The primary purpose of the Philoptochos is to serve as a service organization to all those who may be in need. This is accomplished by offering one’s service and talents to the organization in the operation of fundraisers, special event receptions, donations to charitable organizations and direct help to those in need. The Philoptchos is a charitable coalition of women from within the parish that is unique to the Greek Orthodox Church in North America. This philanthropic group was formed by, then Archbishop, Athenagoras I in the year 1931. The group is nation-wide but comprised of local chapters at each Greek Orthodox Church. You can learn more about the national group as a whole by visiting their website.
Our chapter is involved with local charities such as food pantries and homeless shelters. They also have various fundraisers throughout the year and are well known for their bake sales.
